“That endless, beginningless, eternal substance is you. This eternal substance has assumed a role. A temporary role”
Let’s say you have worn a nice dress. And someone next to you is eating an ice cream. He accidentally spills a little ice cream on your dress. Your dress is new and a little ice cream falls on it. You will feel sad. But if you are aware of the fact that, ‘The ice cream has not fallen on me. It has fallen on my dress.’ will the amount of sadness you experience be less?. If you have the understanding, ‘It’s not a big deal.’ ‘It’s only on the dress, it can be washed off.’ then your stress level will be very low or you will have almost no stress. With just this understanding that, ‘Whatever is happening is happening to the role,’ ‘It is happening to the body and not me,’ you can reduce your stress level. You are that conscious energy, that Eternal Substance. That endless, beginningless, eternal substance is you. This eternal substance has assumed a role. A temporary role, after which it will leave and move on to a 2nd role, 3rd role. Till you attain liberation, you have to keep performing roles. Performing duties as per your role is a part of your worldly interactions. And to maintain the spiritual perspective that, “This is just a temporary role, I am a Soul. I am a Pure Soul. A Pure, Peaceful, Powerful, Loveful Soul, a Blissful Soul with a specific role. Which I am doing. I should be sincerely doing,’ ‘My conduct, my duty, my responsibility.” But don’t get so attached to the role. For that, you must have that Soul consciousness, awareness at all times. I have diabetes. I do take medication. But ‘I’ have not become sick. I am beyond the ailments of Vata (Air), Pitta (Fire) and Kapha (Water) energy. ‘I’ can never suffer from diabetes. ‘I’ can never suffer from blood pressure. ‘I’ can never suffer from a cardiac arrest. It can happen to the dress. I have worn this dress now, so, I will definitely take care of it. But your stress level will be so low, because no matter what has happened, its only the dress which has become dirty. Can it be washed or not? And even if cannot be washed, never mind, no problem. Nothing has happened to me. ‘I’ have not been injured. ‘I’ am not diseased. Just by developing this discrimination, you can reduce your stress level.
